Collection of the Museum “Moscow House of Photography”

This exhibition includes the author’s color and black-and-white prints from the collection of the Moscow House of Photography. Boris Saveliev was and still remains a mythological figure in Moscow art-circles. He always kept to himself, while at the same time remaining an informal creative leader and one of the most outstanding representatives of Russian actual art.

The works of Boris Saveliev strike us with their irreproachable, filigree manner of execution, that stands up to highest international standards. Working with light and shade, the basis of photography, he managed to penetrate the alchemic essence of the photographic process.

The photographer has a perfect knowledge of both the most contemporary and the long-forgotten old techniques of printing, which, owing to his craftsmanship, have acquired a new life. The quality of his work is unrivalled in Russia. Every author’s print is a thing in itself, having independent artistic value. It is also surprising that the photographer is equally successful with black-and-white and with color compositions, while always printing everything himself.

A conceptual, constructive and professional master, Boris Saveliev is always a discovery for the audience, be it professionals or those simply interested in photography.
