The big wheel keeps on turning

The generation of Young British Artists not only radically changed the British art scene, but became a significant tendency that influenced the development of world art throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Marc Quinn is one of the most striking representatives of this movement. For the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow it is a privilege and a delight to welcome this exhibition by a remarkable artist.

This is the first large-scale presentation of Marc Quinn’s art in Russia, and the exhibition content offers a comprehensive overview of how his creative work developed and transformed over the last twenty years.

Marc Quinn’s oeuvre is based on a serious philosophical understanding of the history of art, the history of culture and the reality in which we live today. At the same time Marc Quinn works splendidly with the most diverse materials and media. Whether it is sculpture, painting or art installation — in all his creations Marc Quinn examines elementary questions of the universe, and the principles by which man exists in this world.

An exhibition by Marc Quinn is the best possible gift for the 16th anniversary of our museum and, I am sure, it will also provide a bonus to any contemporary art enthusiast. I am extremely grateful to Marc Quinn for kindly agreeing to prepare this special exhibit for Moscow. I would also like to thank all those who helped realise the project, in particular the entire team at Marc Quinn Studio.

This exhibition could not have taken place without the support of the City of Moscow Culture Department, specifically the head of department Sergei Kapkov and his first deputy Ekaterina Pronicheva.

I am also grateful for the support of the JTI, general partner in this project, and the British Council in Russia.
