The ‘Event’ project is based on real photographs from social media users. Dmitry Kavka first recreated scenes from the photos using 3D-modelling software, preserving the composition, figures and colour model. He then intuitively complicated the images, layered and expanded them. The result was digital paintings and GIF animations. Next the artist manually transferred the digital images to paper using coloured pencils and watercolours. In this way Dmitry Kavka returned the reworked images and stories to the real world – to the human space where they originally existed.
“By this procedure I’m not interested in depicting reality or embellishing it, but in the process of transformation. I try to discover other possible scenarios: miraculous, magical, dramatic scenarios that cannot be definitively interpreted – events that never happened in a person’s life, but they could have. It’s an intuitive process of guessing a different role, transforming a person into a new being, creating a new Event,” the author explains.
