For the press

The Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow, as part of the project ‘History of Russia in Photographs’ presents the multimedia exhibition ‘The Great Patriotic War. 1941–1945’, a visual chronicle of the war years. It is based on videos dedicated to key events of the war, and the fates of the photographers who captured them. Among the thousands of photojournalists from 62 countries that participated in World War II, the Soviet photographers left the most poignant evidence of those terrible events that we must remember and that must not be repeated. With a camera instead of a rifle, they endured the entire war side by side with the soldiers, performing feats every day. Photographers demonstrated miracles of heroism: even a simple turn of the focus ring in the smoke and under fire seemed impossible, both physically and morally.
